Am I Pregnant? | Early Pregnancy Signs

Finding out that you’re pregnant can come as a shock, whether you were trying to conceive or not. It’s the first of many emotions that come with your pregnancy journey! There can be a lot of anxiety that comes with the moments before you know you are pregnant. Waiting until you miss your period in order to take an at-home pregnancy test to know if you are pregnant can seem like a long time to wait, but there are other signs that you can look out for before your missed period to help give you some insight!

Many pregnancy symptoms can happen as early as 2 to 3 weeks from conception, so there can be signs that you may notice before you miss your period. The tricky part is that no two women have the same symptoms. What you may experience can be completely different from what your friend or mother experienced. This does not mean you are not pregnant or that something is wrong. All of our bodies have different ways of creating and preparing for a new life.

Even second or third pregnancy symptoms can look different from your first! It is important not to compare one pregnancy to the other. Regardless, there are a few common signs that a large population of women experience, such as nausea, tender breasts, cramping, and fatigue.

But are you curious what some of those more unique symptoms are that might be a sign you are pregnant? Keep reading to find out!

Unique Early Signs and Symptoms

  • Implantation bleeding
    • If you notice light spotting before you expect your period, it might be implantation bleeding. This can happen around six to twelve days after conception.
  • Gas
    • With the added progesterone and estrogen in your body,  many women can bloat, belch, and pass more gas.
  • Vivid dreams
    • A not-so-common sign that women report is vivid dreaming. It is again linked to having the added estrogen and progesterone in your body. Some women experience this in the first trimester while others don’t until their last trimester.
  • Sour or metallic taste
    • If you notice a change in taste, it could be an early sign of pregnancy! Many women report a sour or metallic taste, which is also known as dysgeusia.
  • Stuffy or runny nose
    • Another side effect of increased levels of hormones is having your mucous membrane in your nose swell and dry out, causing a stuffy or runny nose.
  • Heartburn
    • Progesterone relaxes the muscles in your body, including the valve between your stomach and your esophagus, allowing stomach acid to leak and cause heartburn.
