How Much Does it Cost to Give Birth at a Birth Center?
The question around the cost of giving birth is a big one! Let’s talk about the financials of giving birth at Birth Center Stone Oak and why birth centers might be great options for those looking for better care that remains affordable.
Why Choose a Birth Center?
There are several reasons why expecting families choose a birth center. It is ideal for women who are healthy, at low risk for complications, and who prefer natural childbirth. Moreover, birth centers are ‘cozier’ than hospitals; they are quieter, less crowded, and more private. They also typically charge less than hospitals (significantly less).
In many cases, our birth center charges are significantly less than out-of-pocket expenses associated with insurance deductibles and copays.
But before estimating costs, it is good to know what is involved in a birth center delivery.
What to expect during your prenatal visits
To begin, each prenatal visit includes a 45-minute session with a midwife. These visits give you sufficient time to learn about your labor options and come up with a birth preparation and plan that is best for you. When learning about these options, we recommend that you ask as many questions as you wish. In fact, keep a running list of questions that come to your mind between visits.
Prenatal visits also include physical monitoring of your blood pressure, pulse, temperature, swelling, diet, hydration, vitamins, urinalysis, weight, position of baby, baby’s activity, and fetal heart rate. They also include a review and assessment of your progress and how you are feeling on each visit.
Much of these visits have to do with patient education, which includes counseling and recommendations on nutrition, fitness, stress management, and other factors related to pregnancy and labor.
At Birth Center Stone Oak, we are big on education. That’s why we encourage expecting couples to enroll in the Bradley Method childbirth education course on natural birthing methods without medication.
