Are Adjustments During Pregnancy Painful?
Pregnancy is associated with a lot of chemical and physical changes in your body. While these changes are natural and help the body prepare for incoming labor, they can be troublesome at times.
During pregnancy, your body releases several hormones that help your pelvis stretch and relax to allow for the baby to come down easily. Sometimes this can cause instability in your skeletal system, leading to aches and pains.
During these instances, chiropractic care can be beneficial. It helps align your spine and back muscles to relieve tension, without any drugs or surgical intervention.
Is it safe to go to a chiropractor while pregnant?
According to the Pregnancy Association, chiropractic care is safe for all pregnant women unless they have an obvious contraindication (such as vaginal bleeding). It’s always good to get an opinion from your healthcare provider before you start going to one.
While many chiropractors are trained to deal with pregnant women, certain chiropractors are specially trained in prenatal chiropractic care. Going to the latter might be better since they have a better idea of how to manipulate joints and muscles in a way that is safer for pregnancy.
Are they painful?
Adjustments during pregnancy are typically not painful. They feel similar to regular adjustments. Even if they’re slightly uncomfortable, the discomfort lasts a few seconds before you start feeling better.
Does insurance cover chiropractic during pregnancy?
Most insurance plans do cover chiropractic care during pregnancy. However, check with your insurance provider and chiropractic care provider to see if they accept your insurance plan.
