What if My Birth Doesn’t Go to Plan?
At the birth center, our first and foremost priority is to help the mother have the best birth experience and ensure the baby and the mother get through the process safely.
Sometimes, we face circumstances that put mothers or babies at risk. These indicate a transfer of care to a hospital setting. When this happens, we walk through the process with you so you have some level of control during the entire situation.
Our plan of action is determined by where we are, whether it’s during pregnancy or the actual labor, warranting more immediate action.
What If I’m Risking Out Of Care During My Pregnancy?
We highly encourage all our moms to come in for their regular prenatal appointments so we can monitor the progress of pregnancy closely.
If, at some point, we establish that you have a condition that may put you or your baby at risk, we keep you informed. We give you all the options that you have. These include natural options if you are open to trying them and medical options if that is the best route.
We help walk you through the entire journey, as apprehensive as you might be, to help ensure that you are not alone.
What If I Need to Transfer During Labor?
Sometimes even if you have had a healthy pregnancy, complications can arise during labor.
When this happens, our goal is to deliver the baby safely without compromising your health.
If we notice something out of the ordinary, we let you know what’s going on and lay out all the options we have. Often, issues can be alleviated with our natural approach, and we reassess after some time to see your progress.
If the progress is satisfactory, we pay extra attention to you and make sure the baby delivers safely and naturally how you imagined.
However, if an emergent situation arises, we arrange a transfer of care to the hospital.
What Happens After The Delivery?
Even if you had to deliver in a hospital setting, it does not mean you close your doors to birth center care permanently. We can still care for you after your delivery and provide postpartum and well-woman care for you.
