At Birth Center Stone Oak, we believe knowledge is one of the most important tools you can bring into the birth room. Our childbirth education program offers a thorough, hands-on approach to labor, birth, and early parenting, whether you’re preparing for your first baby or adding another one to your family.
What Is Childbirth Education, and Why Does It Matter?
Childbirth education covers the essentials of labor, birth, and immediate postpartum care. Topics include the stages of labor, natural coping techniques, creating a birth plan, and the important role of your partner or support person.
These classes equip families to ask questions, weigh options, and make choices that reflect their values and needs. Informed preparation can lead to a more positive, satisfying experience during birth.
What Makes Birth Center Childbirth Education Unique?
Our classes are tailored to families planning an out-of-hospital birth. We teach from a holistic, evidence-based perspective with an emphasis on physiologic birth. You’ll learn about comfort techniques like movement, hydrotherapy, and breathwork, tools that support labor without medication.
Our classes are not overbooked to encourage open conversation and personalized learning. We take time to answer questions and build relationships. The focus is on helping you take an active role in your care through shared decision-making.
Topics Typically Covered in a Birth Center Class
- How labor unfolds: early labor, active labor, and transition
- Techniques for managing contractions without medication
- The role of your partner or support person during birth
- How to understand and give informed consent
- What to expect at the birth center, including policies and available support
- Early postpartum care, including breastfeeding and newborn care
Each session helps you prepare for birth and the early days of parenting.
When and How to Enroll in Classes
Classes are offered in two formats to fit your schedule:
- Monthly Saturday Intensive: One 6-hour session
- Wednesday Evenings: A series of weekly 2-hour sessions
We recommend enrolling during your late second or early third trimester. This gives you time to process what you learn and apply it as your due date approaches.
All classes are hosted by Intuitive Beginnings Doula Collective, a trusted partner in birth education and support.
