What Prenatal Services Do You Provide? A Peek Into Our Loving, Comprehensive Care
Prenatal care is one of the most important aspects of your pregnancy. Good prenatal care not only ensures optimal maternal and fetal health but also provides the mother with the emotional support she needs to soar through pregnancy and birth.
At Birth Center Stone Oak, we acknowledge the importance of prenatal care and aim to provide our clients with continuing support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Here’s how we do it.
Initial Consultation & Orientation
Your prenatal care starts from your initial visit. This visit allows you the opportunity to get to know us and helps us get to know you as well! These appointments are long. They can last for up to an hour, allowing you plenty of time to talk and for us to listen.
We take a detailed history regarding previous pregnancies, reproductive health, and any medical conditions you might have. This helps us shape your prenatal care to your needs and also ensures that you’re a good candidate for natural birth.
We discuss your birth plan and any other birth-related aspirations that you have. We mutually decide on the type of care you will be receiving and devise a prenatal care plan accordingly.
If you decide to deliver at the birth center, we will get started on the paperwork to get you registered as our client. We will book your next prenatal appointment and take things from there.
Routine Prenatal Visits
An important component of prenatal care is the routine prenatal visits. There are usually 7-10 visits, depending on when you start. Some mothers may require more visits, while some could do with less. We decide that together on a case-by-case basis.
Each visit starts with a check-in to see how you’re doing physically and emotionally. We then take your blood pressure, pulse, and check your weight. We also do an abdominal examination to check the baby’s position and listen to their heartbeat. We may measure the fundal height to ensure the baby’s growth is appropriate for the dates.
You will have time to address any concerns or ask any questions. We then prescribe lab work or a scan according to what is required.
Nutritional & Lifestyle Guidance
First-time mothers may struggle with nutrition and lifestyle adjustments during pregnancy. We help by providing food guides and supplements to ensure that you’re getting the nutrients that you need for a healthy pregnancy. If you suffer from pregnancy ailments like nausea or fatigue, we try to provide natural solutions that help you feel better without any medications.
We also provide holistic support for sleep and stress management. Our experts also guide you regarding pregnancy-safe exercise and movement.
Education & Birth Preparation
Education during the prenatal period can help parents be better-prepared and less anxious about what’s to come. We provide childbirth education classes that walk parents through the process of pregnancy, birth, and childcare, so they know what to expect and how to deal with each situation as it arises.
For parents who prefer self-study, we have resources for VBAC, natural birth, or other personalized goals that they can go through on their own time. We also provide tips on how to prepare the older sibling for their baby sibling and how your partner can be more involved.
Holistic & Emotional Support
The birth center provides midwife-led care that sees the whole person and individualized care according to each person’s needs. We take emotional health just as seriously as a mother’s physical health and provide continuous support for each aspect throughout. You will always have time to be heard and guided through every concern that you have.
If needed, we provide referrals for chiropractic care, pregnancy-safe massages, or mental health counseling.
Lab Testing & Screenings
We prescribe routine labs and scans as part of monitoring your and your baby’s progress. Some optional screening tests are also offered. Most of our lab work is conducted in-house, while we may refer you for scans.
We understand that nothing is one-size-fits-all in prenatal care, so we make sure we explain each process to you in detail. This enables you to make informed choices.
Our prenatal care services are well thought out and designed to be comprehensive to suit your needs. However, if you still have any concerns at any step, be sure to ask our expert midwives, and they’ll do their best to assist you.
